Editor level

The different things you, as a Waze user, do with Waze -- driving, reporting, customizing the map -- will earn you different amounts of points. You get more points by driving more, but also by updating the map in your maintainable area. Not all of these points count towards your Editor level. The Editor level only depends on the number of map adjustments (edits) you make, not on the points you get for driving.

All editable parts on the map, such as roads and places are locked. You can adjust a map section when the lock level is equal to or lower than your own Editor level. But, you can always ask for a downlock of a part in the Slack editing channel, so that you can still adjust it.

You will receive the first Editor levels automatically when you have made a certain number of edits. It is also possible to request a next level before you have made the relevant number of edits. In our country it is difficult to make the number of card adjustments needed for automatic promotions.

Starting at L1 you automatically reach L2 with 3000 edits. You can only reach higher levels through a request or grant. See the Community Levels page for more information about editor rankings and submitting a promotion request.

You can request the editor level by clicking on your photo in the Waze Map Editor at the top right.

New users have limited editing capabilities, which will increase over time based on their rides and how long they have been an editor. Novice editors will not be able to independently create new places until 30 PURs they have generated have been approved by trusted and higher-level editors.
